First Citizenship by Investment Program in South America
Citizenship by Investment in Argentina
Argentina is developing what is projected to be the first official Citizenship by Investment program in South America, following the introduction of the regulatory framework of Decree 524/2025 signed in July 2025.
This disruptive scheme seeks to open a direct route for international investors to obtain citizenship and a high-power global passport, prioritizing the injection of capital into the country's productive economy without the need for mandatory prior physical residence.
The program will be under the supervision of the newly created Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs (APCI) , operating under the Ministry of Economy.
Program status: Applications expected to open in the last quarter of 2026
- Projected Concession Type: Full citizenship and direct passport.
- Estimated Minimum Investment: From USD 500,000 (preliminary threshold to be confirmed).
- Passport Power: Ranked 12th globally.
Why Argentina?
As a G20 member and South America's second-largest economy by area, Argentina is emerging as one of the most disruptive players in global investment migration. The program aims to offer investors a privileged business platform with access to and free movement within the MERCOSUR market (over 295 million people), backed by a historically strong passport that currently ranks 12th globally, granting visa-free access to more than 161 destinations, including the Schengen Area. All of this, combined with a policy allowing dual citizenship and an environment undergoing pro-market reforms, makes this future avenue for corporate capital a highly strategic opportunity for asset diversification without requiring forced physical relocation.
Projected Eligibility Criteria
Since the final regulations are being finalized by APCI, applicants are expected to meet the following international standards:
- Minimum Age: The main investor must be over 18 years old.
- Due Diligence: Passing a strict criminal background check.
- Traceability: Impeccable accreditation of the lawful origin of the funds to be invested.
- Family Inclusion: It is anticipated that the benefit will extend to the spouse and dependent children, in accordance with global industry standards.
