Greece reduces processing times for its Golden Visa

In recent months, Greece has implemented significant administrative reforms that have noticeably reduced processing times for its Golden Visa program. This improvement represents a strategic advance for both applicants and the country, which continues to solidify its position as one of the preferred destinations for investment-based residency in Europe.

Substantial progress in program management

During July 2025, the country managed to reduce its backlog of pending applications by 2.772 cases, the largest monthly decrease recorded to date. This progress brought the total number of pending applications down to 47.909, representing a 9% reduction compared to the peak recorded in April. At that time, more than 52.800 applications were pending.

According to the specialized media outlet IMI DailyThe sustained processing rate has been made possible by a proactive approach from the Greek authorities, who have approved more applications than they have received since April. In July alone, 734 applications were approved compared to 511 new ones submitted, demonstrating a monthly processing surplus of 44%.

Prioritization strategy and concrete results

The current model prioritizes older applications. This has allowed for the processing of 26% of the applications submitted in January 2025 and 42% of the total for 2024. This systematic approach is enabling consistent, rather than selective, progress on the accumulated inventory.

Some applications have been processed in less than 30 days. This contrasts sharply with the timeframes of up to 18 months that characterized the program in 2024. These accelerated times confirm that the reforms are generating tangible results for international investors.

The profile of applicants is diversifying

China remains the leading country of origin for applicants, accounting for 47% of all active visa holders. However, Turkey has shown the most significant growth, with a 158% increase over the past year. In July, Turkish citizens added 338 new Golden Visas, reflecting a 15,6% monthly increase.

Attica is among the preferred investment regions, with 11.500 pending applications. It is followed by Central and Eastern Macedonia, and the Peloponnese, which together account for a significant portion of investor interest.
