Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to live in Italy permanently?
No. Unlike other residency schemes, Italy's Golden Visa offers complete regulatory flexibility and imposes no strict annual quota of days in the country for the main investor.
Can I include my immediate family in the process?
Yes. Italian law allows residency benefits to be extended to your spouse, dependent children and parents under the same unified application.
Does this program give access to a European passport?
Yes. You and your family can apply for permanent residency after 5 years of regular legal residence, and become eligible for Italian citizenship once the periods and requirements set by national law are met (10 years).
What exactly counts as an “Innovative Startup” under Italian law?
An Innovative Startup is a limited company incorporated in Italy that meets strict government criteria for a technological or scientific base. That includes spending at least 15% of its costs on research and development, having a highly qualified team (master's degrees or doctorates), or holding a registered industrial patent. At AIM Global we work only with funds and startups already audited and certified by the Ministry.
Can I switch the destination of the investment midway through?
Not directly. The Investor Visa for Italy rules require the capital to stay intact in the route originally approved by the Technical Committee. If an investor withdraws funds from a startup or sells the government bonds before the set term, the residence permit is revoked immediately, unless a new visa procedure is started from scratch.
What are the exact legal deadlines for transferring the capital once the visa is approved?
The rules give the investor a strict maximum of 3 months (90 days) from the exact date of entry into Italy to make and document the full transfer of funds to the receiving entity. Missing that deadline automatically cancels the prior authorisation (Nulla Osta).
Does Italy's Golden Visa come with any preferential tax regime?
Italy has highly attractive tax regimes for wealthy new residents, such as the well-known flat tax of €100,000 a year on worldwide income for large estates. That said, obtaining the investor visa does not trigger tax obligations automatically, unless you move your main tax residency to the country by spending more than 183 days a year in Italy.
